Christmas

It's been a busy time latley. Christmas has just finished and we all had a fantastic day. Thomas got lots of presents and because Zach's so small, Tom got to open Zachs as well. He'll never have that many presents to open again.

Zach's well over 15 pounds in weight now. He's following the 75th percentile in baby growth when Tom followed he 50th. asically that means he's a big long boy who at 4 months of age is wearing 6-9 month clothing! Granted it does all shrink to a degree when washed but that's still some achievement.

He's holding toys now and has taken a shine to one of Thomas's favorite toys when he was a baby. It's a little fabric character that we call 'pinky' because he has pink ears. He plays with his 'a-frame' a lot and rolls himself over onto his side frequently. Yesterday for the first time he rolled from his front to his back for the first time.

Thomas and Zach are absolutley beautiful and I love them to bits.

More soon including photo's from christmas day.

Lets catch up shall we....?

Well since my last post about the family, a lot has happened. We've had halloween as you can see from the pictures. We went to 2 parties and they were great fun. Can't believe I'd never been to a halloween party before.

At the beginning of November we went to 'Centre Parks' for 5 days holiday. We ate out lots, did plenty of swimming and a few other things. Took lots of photos, tried to take lots of Zach as it was his first holiday. Amanda's mum and aunt came with us which gave them time to spend with the kids. We all enjoyed ourselves very much.

I will post a few images of the holiday soon.I'll try and do it now actually. Hang on...... done.

This one is my favorite picture. It's of Tom just after he's thrown a stone into the water.

Zach is doing really well. He's sixteen stone or something ;) Last night he slept from 10:30pm through to 7:30am! Normally, he only seems to get up once a night now. It will change soon enough though I am sure of that. Teething.....

3 months old today is Zachary. I do intend to update this blog on a regular basis throughout

Zach's first year. We'll see after that what happens.

I love my family....

Zach update

Amanda took Zach to be weighed yesterday and he is now 12lbs 4ounces. He also had his first set of jabs from the doctor last week. He screamed and was quite unsettled that day. The following day he seemed to sleep most of the time.

He's changing quite significantly of late. He coo's and makes lots of facial expressions, nice big smiles which is very rewarding to see. He will only get more interactive as time goes by, it's a very exciting time for all of us.

Tom is enjoying having Zach around, he interacts with him much the same way that we do. He's obviously been watching us and learning.

Zach is 8 weeks old and will be 2 months on the 31st.

Now some additions to this post from Tom (all written by Tom!):

TOM MUMMY DADDY NANNY ZACH TC (this line all spelt by tom, mummy told tom the sound for the next lines!)
XRAY MADAGASCAR ALEX MARTY GLORIA MELMAN
TOM LOVES ZACH

Tom

Seems to be well on the way to recovery. Now we just have to crack the 5am "Daddy, is it time to get up yet?"......

Tom's ear infection

Tom was not well last night. The side of his ear up to his jaw was (and still is) swollen, so I took him to the doctors this morning. He's got an ear infection apparently. :(

I'll post again with any updates.

Zach is Mr Spock from Star Trek

Zach had to go for a hearing test today to make sure everything was ok. He past the tests with no problems but he did look a bit odd with all the 'kit' attached to him..........

I'll have to post the picture in a bit when I get home. Can't do it from work.

Planet Guide

Test

'tom'

Yesterday whilst Amanda was on the laptop, Tom was showing his usual interest and pressing keys that you didn't want him to when Amanda pointed ou the letters that spelt 'tom'. Next thing she knew he was on the keyboard and had typed out 'tom'!

Not the sort of thing I'd expect from a 3 year old. He asked where the letters for 'Mummy' and 'Daddy' where and he typed those out too. Ended up with 7 different names.

I wonder if he'll ever learn to write or will go straight to typing....of course not but you see what I'm thinking.

Pretty soon, writing will become a lost art I bet. "Heh! My Mum can write her own name. I bet yours can't!"

Google and Sun to offer Office software

You have to check this out. I'm a big fan of Google and Sun Microsystems Open Office. Open Office "OO" is a direct competitor to Microsofts Office suite. OO can be downloaded for free. It is compatible with MS Office so why spend > $100 on software when you don't need to? Whats more is that OO version 2 is due out soon.

It's possible that Google will offer an online version of Open Office meaning you don't have to install the software and you can work with your documents from whatever PC you want. Quite an exciting prospect. You might be able to store your documents online. Say a gb of storage just like their email system (which is also a gigabyte of storage).

So you could have a complete office suite, on any pc you use and be able to access your files from anywhere. To go with that is google's email "Gmail" which doesn't require any software to be installed. All this could be accessable from a Windows based PC or a Linux based one. Lots of Linux operating systems are free and loaded with other software you might need (CD burning, Music players, movie players).

Personally, I think Microsoft will need to change their game plan if they are to remain as dominant in the software market as they currently are.

A lot of what I've talked about already exists, but Google have the brand name and reputation to crash Microsofts 'party'.

Tom back to school

Today after being ill on Tuesday and especially Tuesday night. Back to his old self, completely ignoring everything Mummy and Daddy say to him :(

Rough night..

Tuesday night was not the best. Poor Tom woke up in a coughing fit at 12:30am. We checked his temperature which was 39.8 C, which is extremely high to say the least. We spoke to NHS Direct and our own doctor in the end and managed to get his temperature down with Calpol and Calbuprofen (ibuprofen version) to a resonable 37.5 C but about 3:30am.

Needless to say we had a dodgey nights sleep and two days later we're still suffering. He's a lot better now though.

Chin up :)

Zach at one month.

I knew it would come around quickly and so it has, Zach is now one month old.

He smiled for the first time yesterday! You could tell that it wasn't wind because he smiled using his whole face. Mummy was the lucky recipent, he hasn't smiled for me yet and believe me I've tried. She has deserved it though with all the effort she's put in over the last month.

He's pretty good at lifting his head now. As you can see in the photo. Tom never liked lying on his stomach but Zach doesn't seem to mind it.

Some Friday humour...

Thanks to our friend Sam for this..

Aircraft tower announcements Tower and pilot chat
-

Tower: "Delta 351, you have traffic at 10 o'clock, 6 miles!" Delta 351: "Give us another hint! We have digital watches!"

Tower: "TWA 2341, for noise abatement turn right 45 Degrees." TWA 2341: "Centre, we are at 35,000 feet. How much noise can we make up here?" Tower: "Sir, have you ever heard the noise a 747 makes when it hits a 727?"
----------------------------------------
From an unknown aircraft waiting in a very long takeoff queue: "I'm f...ing bored!" Ground Traffic Control: "Last aircraft transmitting, identify yourself immediately!" Unknown aircraft: "I said I was f...ing bored, not f...ing stupid!"
----------------------------------------
O'Hare Approach Control to a 747: "United 329 heavy, your traffic is a Fokker, one o'clock, three miles, Eastbound." United 329: "Approach, I've always wanted to say this... I've got the little Fokker in sight."
----------------------------------------
A student became lost during a solo cross-country flight. While attempting to locate the aircraft on radar, ATC asked: "What was your last known position?"

Student: "When I was number one for takeoff."
----------------------------------------
A DC-10 had come in a little hot and thus had an exceedingly long roll out after touching down. San Jose Tower noted: "American 751, make a hard right turn at the end of the runway, if you are able. If you are not able, take the Guadeloupe exit off Highway 101, make a right at the lights and return to the airport."
----------------------------------------
A Pan Am 727 flight, waiting for start clearance in Munich, overheard the following: Lufthansa (in German): "Ground, what is our start clearance time?" Ground (in English): "If you want an answer you must speak in English."

Lufthansa (in English): "I am a German, flying a German airplane, in Germany. Why must I speak English?" Unknown voice from another plane (in a beautiful British accent): "Because you lost the bloody war!"
----------------------------------------
Tower: "Eastern 702, cleared for takeoff, contact Departure on frequency 124.7" Eastern 702: "Tower, Eastern 702 switching to Departure. By the way, after we lifted off we saw some kind of dead animal on the far end of the runway."

Tower: "Continental 635, cleared for takeoff behind Eastern 702, contact Departure on frequency 124.7. Did you copy that report from Eastern 702?"

BR Continental 635: "Continental 635, cleared for takeoff, roger; and yes, we copied Eastern... we've already notified our caterers."
----------------------------------------
One day the pilot of a Cherokee 180 was told by the tower to hold short of the active runway while a DC-8 landed. The DC-8 landed, rolled out, turned around, and taxied back past the Cherokee.

Some quick-witted comedian in the DC-8 crew got on the radio and said, "What a cute little plane. Did you make it all by yourself?"

The Cherokee pilot, not about to let the insult go by, came back with a real zinger: "I made it out of DC-8 parts. Another landing like yours and I'll have enough parts for another one."
----------------------------------------
The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot. They not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747, call sign Speedbird 206.

Speedbird 206: "Frankfurt, Speedbird 206 clear of active runway." Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven." The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop. Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?" Speedbird 206: "Stand by, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now."

Ground (with quite arrogant impatience): "Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?" Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark, and I didn't land."
----------------------------------------
While taxiing at London's Gatwick Airport, the crew of a US Air flight departing for Ft. Lauderdale made a wrong turn and came nose to nose with a United 727.

An irate female ground controller lashed out at the US Air crew,
screaming: "US Air 2771, where the hell are you going?! I told you to turn right onto Charlie taxiway! You turned right on Delta! Stop right there. I know it's difficult for you to tell the difference between C and D, but get it right!"

Continuing her rage to the embarrassed crew, she was now shouting
hysterically: "God! Now you've screwed everything up! It'll take forever to sort this out! You stay right there and don't move till I tell you to! You can expect progressive taxi instructions in about half an hour, and I want you to go exactly where I tell you, when I tell you, and how I tell you! You got that, US Air 2771?"

"Yes, ma'am," the humbled crew responded.

Naturally, the ground control communications frequency fell terribly silent after the verbal bashing of US Air 2771. Nobody wanted to chance engaging the irate ground controller in her current state of mind.

Tension in every cockpit out around Gatwick was definitely running high.

Just then an unknown pilot broke the silence and keyed his microphone,
asking: "Wasn't I married to you once?"

Interesting quote from someone elses blog....

"That being said, Milo almost took matters into his own hands last night – literally. I had him on the change table just before his bath time, and he was gooing, kicking, and flailing like he always does (the change table is still pretty much his favourite place to be… oh, how that boy loves to have a bare butt. He’s like his father that way). I was tickling his cheeks and making faces at him, when all of a sudden his eyes bulged out of their sockets, his face turned purple, and he let out an piercing shriek the likes of which should never be heard beyond the confines of Hell.

I gasped, wondering how my smiling boy could turn so quickly into a screaming demon, then let out a shriek myself when I saw the reason for his sudden transformation. The poor guy had one of his tiny fists clenched around his penis and testicles and was squeezing them with all his might – and that kid has a pretty good grip on him, let me tell you. Hence the screaming, the horrible, horrible screaming"

Zachary 'porky pie' Richards....

...is 9lbs 6ounces as of today. The average weight gain for a baby of his age is 6 - 7 ounces a week. Last week Zach gained 1 lbs, this week he's gained 13 ounces.

Busy times...

Sorry for the lack of posts, things have been fairly busy lately. I've not be to well since last Thursday. Tom waking up at 6:20am doesn't help matters either!

Anyways, I have a couple of pics for you. Both were taken in the last couple of days.

Would you believe it, Zach will be 1 month old at the weekend. We're both just hanging on till Zach starts sleeping a bit longer through the night. We can't remember when Tom started doing that so we're not sure when Zach will. Not that all kids are the same.

I dunno

I dunno

I forgot to mention that Zach is 3 weeks old today!

It's a cliche but it's certainly true when I say "how time flies".

Family update

Bit bored at work so I thought I'd give an update.

The weekend was a little dodgey on the sleep side of things. Zach seems to have increased his feeding rate at the weekend which has decreased our sleeping rate if you see what I mean!

Last night however was a different story. He slept from midnight to 5:30!

We''l take some more of that please.....

I'll post another picture when I get the chance.

Tom's doing well at pre-school. He often comes home with pictures he's coloured in using his favorite colour.....purple.

It's nice to see him enjoying himself.

Zach's first week

Well he's 1 week old today! I knew time would fly but the last week has disappeared. Top picture is of my 2 wonderful sons, bottom one is of Zach in his new rocking seat that we bought yesterday. I like to call it the 'Autorocker 3000'. It has built in music and 6 different rocking speeds. It's the Cadillac of seats.

LOL :)

He's sleeping well at night at the moment, last 2 nights he has slept from 10ish to about 2:30 - 3:00. Then every 2 or so hours. Not bad at all. We could just be lucky I guess ??? ;)

Day 2 - new pic

Another picture from earlier today.

Day 2

Here he is, 2 days old already! he's obviously got some tasty fingers to by the looks of it.

You can see the bandage covering his right hand, it covers an introvenous tube used for admministering the antibiotics.

Blood tests so far have been ok, some blood culture results to come back on Saturday night hopefully.

He's doing well though. Feeding is good and his temperature is fine.

Amanda is doing really well, she looks good and although tired she's healthy.

Thursday, September 01, 2005

Day 1 update 2

Zach has an elevated white blood cell count meaning his body is fighting of something. They are just doing some more tests to determine what. He has been given some general antibiotics that will hopefully help.

However this means that Amanda and he will be in hospital till Sunday or Monday at the earliest. :(

Day 1 update

Zach and Amanda have to stay in hospital again tonight. The docs are trying o do blood tests.

1 day old

As of now, Zach's still in hospital. He's having some blood tests done which will take a few hours. Hopefully he'll be home around tea time. But you never know....

Uk Voting 2005 my results try you own comparison

Who Should You Vote For?

Who should I vote for?

Your expected outcome:

Conservative

Your actual outcome:

Labour -52
Conservative 52
Liberal Democrat -38
UK Independence Party 29
Green -23

You should vote: Conservative

The Conservative Party is strongly against joining the Euro and against greater use of taxation to fund public services. The party broadly supported the Iraq war and backs greater policing and ID cards. The Tories are against increasing the minimum wage above the rate of inflation, and have committed to abolishing university tuition fees. They support 'virtual vouchers' for private education.

Take the test at Who Should You Vote For

Southampton result

They drew in the end, Everton scored in injury time much to our disgust.

However, Henri Camara was awesome. We'll be seeing a lot more of him in the future.

The oceananarium

Went to this place today http://www.oceanarium.co.uk/ with the mother-in-law, her sister, my sister-in-law and family. Its a fantastic place to see fish especially for children. They had a tunnel which allowed you to walkk through one of the 'ponds'. In that tank were Black tipped reef sharks, 2 fully grown turtles and numerous stingrays. I recommend it to anyone.

Going to watch Southampton play tomorrow with Harley (brother in law). Lets hope they win!
