Amanda took Zach to be weighed yesterday and he is now 12lbs 4ounces. He also had his first set of jabs from the doctor last week. He screamed and was quite unsettled that day. The following day he seemed to sleep most of the time.
He's changing quite significantly of late. He coo's and makes lots of facial expressions, nice big smiles which is very rewarding to see. He will only get more interactive as time goes by, it's a very exciting time for all of us.
Tom is enjoying having Zach around, he interacts with him much the same way that we do. He's obviously been watching us and learning.
Zach is 8 weeks old and will be 2 months on the 31st.
Now some additions to this post from Tom (all written by Tom!):

Tom's ear infection
Tom was not well last night. The side of his ear up to his jaw was (and still is) swollen, so I took him to the doctors this morning. He's got an ear infection apparently. :(
I'll post again with any updates.

Zach is Mr Spock from Star Trek
Zach had to go for a hearing test today to make sure everything was ok. He past the tests with no problems but he did look a bit odd with all the 'kit' attached to him..........
I'll have to post the picture in a bit when I get home. Can't do it from work.

'tom'
Yesterday whilst Amanda was on the laptop, Tom was showing his usual interest and pressing keys that you didn't want him to when Amanda pointed ou the letters that spelt 'tom'. Next thing she knew he was on the keyboard and had typed out 'tom'!
Not the sort of thing I'd expect from a 3 year old. He asked where the letters for 'Mummy' and 'Daddy' where and he typed those out too. Ended up with 7 different names.
I wonder if he'll ever learn to write or will go straight to typing....of course not but you see what I'm thinking.
Pretty soon, writing will become a lost art I bet. "Heh! My Mum can write her own name. I bet yours can't!"

Google and Sun to offer Office software
You have to check this out. I'm a big fan of Google and Sun Microsystems Open Office. Open Office "OO" is a direct competitor to Microsofts Office suite. OO can be downloaded for free. It is compatible with MS Office so why spend > $100 on software when you don't need to? Whats more is that OO version 2 is due out soon.
It's possible that Google will offer an online version of Open Office meaning you don't have to install the software and you can work with your documents from whatever PC you want. Quite an exciting prospect. You might be able to store your documents online. Say a gb of storage just like their email system (which is also a gigabyte of storage).
So you could have a complete office suite, on any pc you use and be able to access your files from anywhere. To go with that is google's email "Gmail" which doesn't require any software to be installed. All this could be accessable from a Windows based PC or a Linux based one. Lots of Linux operating systems are free and loaded with other software you might need (CD burning, Music players, movie players).
Personally, I think Microsoft will need to change their game plan if they are to remain as dominant in the software market as they currently are.
A lot of what I've talked about already exists, but Google have the brand name and reputation to crash Microsofts 'party'.

Rough night..
Tuesday night was not the best. Poor Tom woke up in a coughing fit at 12:30am. We checked his temperature which was 39.8 C, which is extremely high to say the least. We spoke to NHS Direct and our own doctor in the end and managed to get his temperature down with Calpol and Calbuprofen (ibuprofen version) to a resonable 37.5 C but about 3:30am.
Needless to say we had a dodgey nights sleep and two days later we're still suffering. He's a lot better now though.
Chin up :)

Zach at one month.

I knew it would come around quickly and so it has, Zach is now one month old.
He smiled for the first time yesterday! You could tell that it wasn't wind because he smiled using his whole face. Mummy was the lucky recipent, he hasn't smiled for me yet and believe me I've tried. She has deserved it though with all the effort she's put in over the last month.
He's pretty good at lifting his head now. As you can see in the photo. Tom never liked lying on his stomach but Zach doesn't seem to mind it.
